Water Day
Introduction
This year the Industry Day is devoted to the world of automation and control in water systems, for this reason we call it the Water Day. The goal of the Water Day is to gather in the same forum researchers and professionals that work in the field of Automation and Control in water systems. Those two fields, automation and water, are wide enough to treat and discuss many subjects related with control, process monitoring, sensors and actuators, industrial communications, PLC equipment, among others, as well as to discuss about many aspects related with water such as abstraction, treatment, purification, distribution...
To join professionals and researchers from both worlds in two locations makes the Water Day very attractive. Firstly, presentations, discussions and a panel will be held in a University atmosphere; at the end of this part, a special visit to the largest and modern Wastewater plant in South Europe will be prepared for the attendees. The plant, EDAR Besòs, belongs to the group Aigües de Barcelona, the largest drinking water supply company in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, and has kindly prepared a guided visit to this plant. The Water Day is sponsored by this company.
The program for the Water Day contains, initially, a presentation with an historic view that shows the present of the automation in water systems, the path that we followed to reach the present day, and the way we are going to and future for the field of automation and control in the water world. After this state-of-the-art, different presentations will show outstanding projects in the European Union framework related with the research in Automation and control in water systems together with the companies involved in the projects. The participation and the point of view of some specialized companies will give another approach to the present reality and will focus on how to build bridges between this industrial reality and the on-going research. The vision and experience of a professional team that launched a real plant (EDAR Besòs) will show the attendees that research and reality are closer than could seem.
